Marseille Visitor Information

Famous for its extraordinary Bouillabaisse and its friendly ‘down to earth’ people, Marseille is the second largest city in France. Once under the possession of the Greeks and the Romans, be prepared for what remains of some pretty impressive scenery.

Places to see in Marseille might include the stunning harbour of Cassis and as a contrast, the old harbour too. As it is a working port, be on your guard as it is a place that can be quite hostile at times. The Bay of Marseille with its ‘Island of If’ provides a story or two. It is home to a fort that was the ‘Alcatraz’ of France, impenetrable and inescapable!

The Basilica is a popular attraction with the tourists. Its 154m tower watches over the port and is absolutely spectacular.
